Today I had a chat with Mr. Wagoner about ways to improve the next four-way stop data collection. I mentioned our main problem with the inability to collect start and stop times and he came up with the idea of creating a spreadsheet (pictured below). When collecting times, we’d let the stopwatch run for the entire duration and than press “lap” anytime a car stops/starts and then record the numbered lap for each car. For example, car 1 at stop sign C stopped at lap 3 (I’d write it down) and then started at lap 5 (write it down) since there was an overlap for the amount of cars at the four-way stop (Sorry if that explanation was confusing). Another possible idea was to simply record the entire time using an iPad and then just go back in the video and record the times from there. I personally think this would be much easier. Another idea was to set up a doorbell camera and let it record overnight, that way no one has to be there and we can collect data from night time drivers; however, the problem is where exactly to place to camera. I shared these ideas with Morgan and we agreed on trying a different time (early morning/night time) and a different location. One where we are able to see ALL stop signs.
