Today I got together with Morgan to talk about the Governor’s Project and review what she was told in class regarding it. She shared some possible ideas that were discussed for the STEM project such as a solar solution for melting snow and finding ways to reduce gas emissions when using a snow plow. Creating a solar solution would solve the problems of driveways that the sun hits at an angle. The side that the sun doesn’t hit turns into ice after the snow melts. I experience this with my driveway every year. Even after we plow it, the bottom half it completely dry and melted and the upper half has ice. I think it is because the upper half is a hill and the sun almost never hits it directly.
She shared the idea of reducing gas emission when using a snow plow and I have never considered the amount of gas that is being released from them! People try and solve the problem with the amount of gas emission from cars and the effect they have on global warming, but I wonder if anyone has ever considered the effect of snow plows. It would be interesting to compare the air quality of certain areas/time zones seasonally and figuring out the effect of emission from snow plows and if they cause a spike in the quality. Well that would be another fight for another day haha π
