Today I came into class to have my biweekly. I met with Mr. Wagoner and we discussed the progress I’ve made since my last meeting and future goals for the next two weeks. Because we couldn’t find any price-friendly superconductors we moved away from the cooling super-conducer experiment but Mr. Wagoner came up with an impromptu experiment. First I hot-glued a line of magnets onto a small edge (the edge flap of a cardboard box) and then the plan was to 3D-print a little box that would hold the traveling magnet allowing it to levitate without falling off; however, as you might’ve guessed, it didn’t work because when we tried to levitate the magnet by hand, there were pressure bumps along the way which effected the smooth levitation. Though it didn’t work, it was cool to be able to do something hands on with magnets and feeling the pressure points was very fascinating.
