What seems to be a short and simple video blew my mind! In the video linked below, it demonstrates the superconducting cooling process up-close and personal. The experimenter takes Yttrium barium copper oxide (Chemical formula: YBa2Cu3O7), places a magnet on top, and cools the elements with liquid nitrogen. It can be seen how the elements becomes superconductive and the magnet is able to levitate; yet, it is unable to travel with movement. This whole process is known as the Meissner Effect which I have talked about before but it is “the expulsion of magnetic flux when a material becomes superconducting in a magnetic field”.
