Continuing from the beginning of the week, I proceeded in my research of the Lexus Hoverboard. As I said earlier, this porotype has not hit the market due to the complex tech and the specialized track it needs to function. This makes me wonder about my idea and if it is really possible. The technology used in this hoverboard is similar to that of a MagLev train. Throughout research, this topic has come up a lot so the goal next week is to look at maglev trains and their technology. This snippet from the same article as earlier (linked below) describes the use of “Flux Pinning” which allows the board to stably remain hovering over a fixed height. “Once the blocks of metal alloy are cooled to the required temperature and become superconductors, they effectively “trap” lines from the magnetic fields in the track which ensures that the board remains stable in relation to the track. This Flux Pinning technology ensures the board won’t be pushed too far vertically or horizontally by these opposing magnetic forces.” Another fact that I didn’t realize is how heavy the board it as it weights about 20 pounds! I wonder why it is so heavy and if there are any ideas that are already being developed to make it lighter. https://wheelsinstyle.com/lexus-hoverboard/
