Today was interesting day as I looked into the Lexus Hoverboard which my classmate Ryan suggested for me to do. It is so helpful having the aid of the people in this class to help me bring the picture in my head to life even though I myself don’t quite have it painted out completely. I never knew that such a cool gadget existed! Linked below is a video for its ad: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KtzyZKSuls. Lexus named this hoverboard prototype the SLIDE. It never touches the ground or surface as it glides about 3 inches above the surface. The hovering was achieved through the combination of superconductors and magnets. I have not heard much information about superconductors and plan on finding out more about it. From the article linked below, here is a snippet of how the hoverboard works…. “The Lexus hoverboard uses liquid nitrogen to cool these superconductors that are located in the board. Once these superconductors have reached the correct temperature, the board will then hover over the track. However, the track must be a special design with magnets placed in the track.” This hoverboard is the start of something great even though it still hasn’t hit the market.
