Today was our first biweekly meeting! Each student got to meet with a teacher of their choice and discuss progress on projects and plans for future goals. I met with Mrs. VanEtten and she gave me the advice that moving forward I should decide between pursuing the research of magnets and hovercraft and then solving a problem they could be possible solutions for, or to pursue fixing the existing problems with shopping carts which may steer me away from magnets. Before continuing any research, I created a goal of finding a representation of my project idea that already exists. Linked below is a video titled “Project Hover Magnet” which is the idea painted in my head only it would be applied to shopping carts and store floors. Again, how do I plan of solving the problems that come with such an idea? (Magnetic keys sticking to the floor? Health implant issues? Etc.) Firstly and importantly, I need to reach out to a contact who would be able to give me the advice on the likelihood of this ideas’ success. If the chances are slim of it working, then I plan on continuing research on magnets and hovercraft and use that knowledge to solve a new problem. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NoW0A8hYs5A
