September 17- Today was presentation day! Let me tell you, it did not go as expected. It was interesting hearing other project ideas and how everyone has such a different approach towards a problem. Every project is so unique as the spectrum of ideas it so broad. One of my classmates is researching plastic and all the possible ways it can become biodegradable. Another person is researching different techniques for absorbing oil. I can’t wait to see their progress and final results! When presenting mine, I came across even more problems. The more questions I was asked, the bigger the list of problems grew! But it is important to keep in mind that a successful final result is not the main goal, but the research and progress along the way. Newly gained information is a bigger success than focusing on getting an idea to work. Knowing that, it helped me realize that the idea of a magnetic shopping cart system may not work by using magnets. If the magnetic system turns into a fail, then I will move into the direction of hovercraft. Through research I plan on expanding my knowledge on magnetic force and figuring out a way to get this system to work. A goal I wish to accomplish soon is making an outside source. I hope to find someone who will tell me the pros and cons of creating this system out of magnets, and coming up with a better ways of going about it. September 18- Due to a shortened class, we were sent off to continue research. Today I looked into different contacts I could reach out to. I was able to find several people and companies with expertise in the magnetic field and their contact information; however, I am focused on reaching out to a person who posted a YouTube video with a very similar concept of my idea. Over the weekend, I hope to be able to find and reach out to them with questions.
